Tungsten is a steel-grey metal in normal conditions when not combined. Tungsten is obtained naturally on Earth only combined in chemical compounds. Also called wolfram, tungsten is a chemical element with the chemical symbol W and atomic number 74. Tungsten’s essential ores comprise wolframite and scheelite. In unalloyed elemental state, it is used mainly in electrical applications.
