Job Description:

Reporting to the Mine Manager, the Chief Geologist will be responsible for the running of the Geology Department.



  • Ensure quality of blast hole grade control sampling
  • Ensure quality of field grade control
  • Manage the Grade Control model
  • Prepare daily dig plans
  • Reconcile daily truck counts with process plant crushing talleys
  • Calculate month end volumes and reconcile with plant and truck count
  • Month end reporting
  • Train and develop subordinates
  • Oversee and sign off the annual resource modeling process for public disclosure
  • Must ensure that proper procedures and documentation is implemented for the recording of ore mined and cross checking at destination
  • Supervision of mine exploration,  including geochemical and geophysical surveys, and drilling programs as and when required
  • Responsible for the preparation of operating and capital budgets
  • Interpret ore resource data across the Group and give management a perspective on the Group’s resource position
  • Liaise with geologists and exploration geologists in other Divisions to access and interpret data and give some advice on future direction with regard to resources and reserves

Requirements: Qualification and Skill

  • Have extensive experience in database creation and management
  • Have practical experience in field grade control management
  • Well entrenched safety and quality principles
  • Degree qualified
  • Minimum10 years appropriate experience
  • Good working knowledge of software
  • Be diligent and thorough in their approach
  • Work well in a team environment
  • Possess good communication skills
  • Be self-motivated
